The Bravo and Why I Serve projects represent two dynamic platforms that foster staff recognition and storytelling within the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). As the lead developer and project manager, I spearheaded the creation of these platforms in response to a project request to enhance staff engagement and appreciation.

Bravo is a vibrant blog feed where staff members can recognize and celebrate their colleagues' outstanding contributions. Bravo provides a platform for digital shout-outs and appreciation, whether it's acknowledging individuals or teams who have gone above and beyond to support Agency operations or those who have exemplified exceptional teamwork and dedication.

On the other hand, Why I Serve offers a unique opportunity for staff members to share their personal stories and motivations behind their service as public servants. With a dedicated platform for storytelling, staff members can express what compels them to serve their community, reflect on their journey, and inspire others with their experiences of "people helping people."

Both Bravo and Why I Serve align with the spirit of Virginia Public Service Week, a week dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the invaluable contributions of employees who dedicate their work to serving the Commonwealth. During this week, staff members are encouraged to reflect on their contributions, recognize their colleagues, and share their stories of public service through the Why I Serve platform.

As the driving force behind these projects, I ensured that both platforms were user-friendly and aligned with the agency's goals of fostering a culture of recognition, appreciation, and inspiration among staff members. Through Bravo and Why I Serve, staff members can celebrate each other's achievements, reflect on the significance of their work, and inspire a sense of pride and camaraderie within the VDSS community.
